Dagannoth Kings

Combat level 303 · 255 hitpoints

Three kings in one room, and this is the page for fighting all three. None are truly immune, but each has 255 defence in two styles and a gaping hole in the third, so in practice one style kills one king. The classic ring drops (Berserker, Archers, Seers, Warrior) come from here. Each king also has a page of its own for a single-king trip: Dagannoth Prime, Dagannoth Rex and Dagannoth Supreme.

Requirements

  • Horror from the Deep
  • Waterbirth Island access
  • 70+ in your chosen styles

Pointers

  • This is the all-three page. If you only want one king, the Dagannoth Prime, Dagannoth Rex and Dagannoth Supreme pages price that trip instead, and they differ by more than the target: only Prime and Rex can be fought away from the other two.
  • The matchup is the whole fight, and it is NOT "kill it with what it uses". Rex attacks with melee and is weak to MAGIC. Prime attacks with magic and is weak to RANGED. Supreme attacks with ranged and is weak to MELEE.
  • Rex's defences make this obvious: +255 stab, slash, crush AND ranged, but only +10 magic. Meleeing Rex is the single most common mistake here.
  • Rex also has a 35% elemental weakness to EARTH spells (June 2025). Earth surge/blast is the pick, not a generic trident.
  • Prayer is by attacker, not by weakness: Protect from Melee for Rex, Protect from Magic for Prime, Protect from Missiles for Supreme.
  • Rex-only solo is the standard money method. Safespot him against the eastern wall and hit him with a long-range magic spell so Prime and Supreme never aggro.
  • A Dragon warhammer or Bandos godsword spec makes tribrid kills much faster.

What the sim brings here

Every worn slot and every inventory row below is the combat simulation's own output, at the style it ranks fastest for each account tier. Each line carries the channel that chose it: sim means the model solved it, and inherited means the value came through from the hand-authored loadout the solver starts from. Riding through a generator does not make a value derived, so those are marked rather than presented as the model's answer. A line marked unattributed carries a channel the model's own vocabulary no longer declares, so no word is put on it at all rather than one being read off the channel's spelling. Where the model has not answered a row, its own refusal is printed instead; where it has answered a row it doubts, the answer is printed with the doubt attached rather than withheld.

The model declines to name a best style at this encounter: the leading style depends on which fight you take here (mage under Rex only, range under Prime only), so one best style for the whole encounter is not well posed. Every style it has either an answer or a stated reason for is listed below, rather than one being chosen for it.

max tier, hybrid

Worn gear: 11 of 11 slots chosen by the sim.

  • Head: Masori mask sim
  • Cape: Blessed dizana's quiver sim
  • Neck: Necklace of rupture sim
  • Ammo: nothing sim
  • Weapon: Toxic blowpipe sim
  • Body: Masori body sim
  • Shield: nothing sim
  • Legs: Masori chaps sim
  • Hands: Zaryte vambraces sim
  • Feet: Avernic treads (max) sim
  • Ring: Venator ring sim

The model doubts this gear (ranked on the primary style only): this tab is fought in melee and range and mage, and the gear search ranked it on range alone. The bag it was scored in DOES pay for the 6 carried switch item(s), so the trip length is honest, but a reader who spends half the fight in another style is looking at gear chosen for the half the search could see. The armour was not ranked on a time share: one exists, but that ranking is switched off because it made about 7 of 20 hybrid rows slower in their own bag while the trip is still priced on the worn style alone (gen-gear.js STYLE_MIX_ON).

The model doubts this gear (tied with an identical item, so enumeration order decided): the head, cape, neck, ammo, body, legs slots each hold an item the model cannot tell apart from an alternative the search could equally have taken, re-scored identical in this row's own bag. Enumeration order decided it, so the sim had NO REASON; that is not the same as the pick being wrong. SOLVED_GEAR_TIES names them.

What each of those badges means

  • derived:ascent (sim): an accepted coordinate-ascent move: betterThan() preferred this candidate over the incumbent under the row objective and band. The weapon+ammo+shield pairing and the crystal set arrive here too, because both are offered to the same acceptance test.
  • derived:cheapestEqual (sim): cheapestOfEquals(): at budget, an exactly-tied cheaper item replaced the one in this slot. It changes the price and, by construction, not the score.
  • derived:composed (sim): balanceInventory() sized this row from the derived supply menu. The menu enumerates CONSUMABLES and narrows by style, tier and price; it is not the authored bag.
  • derived:empty (sim): the finished loadout leaves this slot EMPTY, and that is an ANSWER rather than a gap: a two-handed weapon forfeits the shield and a weapon that stores its own ammunition frees the ammo slot. Recorded so a null slot is never read as unprovenanced.
  • derived:obtainable (sim): canonicaliseObtainable(): the finished loadout named a variant the model cannot state a route to, and this pass swapped it for the obtainable equal.
  • derived:pouch (sim): derivePouchInto(): the rune pouch and its loose overflow, from the spell the build actually casts and the pouch slot criterion. Not from a pouch a human typed.
  • derived:seedWeapon (sim): the weapon the ascent BEGAN from, taken off the dps-ranked weapon shortlist, or the forced weapon of a multi-start seed. Never off a start loadout.
  • derived:spec (sim): a carried special-attack weapon PROPOSED by `specPlan` (specchoice.js), which prices every SPEC_ATTACKS weapon that deals damage or drains defence on top of the bag solved without one, and KEPT by `judgeSpecArms` only where the composed bag with it beats the bag without it under `compareScores`. The row's `kpt.specWeapon` carries both arms.
  • derived:switch (sim): a carried gear switch, named by `build.switches`, composed by `resolver.hybridSwitches` out of the OTHER styles SOLVED gear (solvedgear.js), at the same tier as the row. This is the derived replacement for `inherited:switch`; the two differ only in which source answered, and the resolver states that per switch rather than letting the consumer infer it.
  • derived:travel (sim): travelPlan(): the way IN, ranked out of the derived transport graph against this account's own unlocks, rather than copied from whatever a human typed. The way OUT is a separate channel (`ruled:escape`) because it is a typed choice, not a ranking.
  • derived:voidSeed (sim): the Void set offered assembled, because an all-or-nothing set effect pays nothing until four slots are right and every single step toward it is a strict loss. The pieces come from VOID_SET in combat.js, the same names its own predicate tests.
  • ruled:escape (ruled): escapeLeg(): the way OUT, taken from the typed per-tier table ESCAPE_PLAN and judged against the account, with nothing substituted and no fallback ladder. The ACCOUNT CHECK is a derivation; the CHOICE of item is not, so this is not a `derived:` channel. ESCAPE_PLAN carries no attributedTo field (PROVENANCE_BACKLOG: silent-and-unattributed), so this channel does not claim one either.
